Current Beauty Favourites

Wednesday, 14 March 2018

It has been a minute and a half since I last posted a favourites video! I used to absolutely love updating you about my monthly favourite products but I've slowed down over the years and am often just rotating through the same products each month. This year, though, I've flooded my collection with some new products and new routines that I want to share!
This is going to be a bit of a long one so buckle in and get ready for makeup first:

Let's start with an absolute classic: MAC Strobe Cream. I've been using the shade Pinklite which is the original colour from before their relaunch. I used to use this mixed in with primer to add an extra glow to nearly every makeup look; glowy skin is my go-to. Now, I'm mixing it in with sunscreen, moisturiser, using it on its own as a primer and I've fallen back in love with it! Such a classic and a real work-horse as far as beauty products go.

For more of a general category, I've finally begun to use lip liners. It has taken me nearly 7 years of wearing makeup every day to understand the appeal of a good lip liner and it took MAC to do it! I have a few from Napoleon Perdis, MAC, and Charlotte Tilbury that I'm mixing and matching with my daily lip looks and I love how they change the way a lipstick or gloss looks and wears throughout the day. I'll definitely have a few in my arsenal from now on!

Speaking of Charlotte Tilbury, in January I finally made my first Charlotte Tilbury purchases and I went a little bit wild. So far I've unsurprisingly really enjoyed the Luxury Palette in the Glamour Muse, a beautiful quad of purple shades. It's like my favourite eyeshadow look in a palette; if only there was another transition shade. But that glitter makes up for anything! The new Hollywood Contour Wands were a bit of a splurge but I've heard positive things from some Australian bloggers and decided to give them a try. I absolutely love the Contour Wand in Fair-Medium which is a surprise considering how dark and scary it looks on my skin. It blends out beautifully and is a much more natural tone than the other contour and bronzer products I've been reaching for over summer. The Light Wand in Spotlight is a very thin golden formula that is super easy to apply and doesn't smudge your foundation underneath. I wish there was more product in these guys but I'm very happy to be using them.

The Benefit Hoola products I recently received as a Sephora rewards perk were a huge surprise as someone who can be a bit hesitant to try such a warm liquid or cream bronzer. The Quickie Contour Stick is an stand-out and has earned a spot in my shopping basket for being really easy to apply and beautiful to blend out. I thought the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops were my holy grail liquid bronzer and this blows them out of the park in terms of ease of use. The Dew the Hoola is a closer comparison to Cover FX but without so much shimmer and a thicker, mousier formula. I think I'll have to play around some more to find a favourite between those two but I can say now I love them both!

I also bit the bullet on Glossier over the summer and placed a massive order via a friend visiting New York. I'm still working my way through trying out all the products but I already know I'm a big fan of the formula of the Cloud Paints. Puff, the light cool-toned pink shade, is my favourite for this current season but I'm also looking to pull out the other three (I purchased every colour) later this year. The formula is thin but not runny and the pigmentation is perfect for achieving a natural pinched-cheek effect. My favourite way to apply is with my fingertips so I don't lose too much product into a brush.

Lastly, I've been spending 2018 so far working through my first proper Pan That Palette challenge (check out my introduction video here) with the Tarte Energy Noir Clay Palette. It became very clear very quickly that I was going to struggle with two very dark shades in the palette that I can only really use for eyeliner. That is, until I received an excellent suggestion from a viewer to layer the dark shades underneath a duo-chrome powder and get more use out of both products. What a perfect excuse to pull out the Kat Von D Alchemist Palette! This is a beautiful powder formula and one that looks wonderful on its own as a highlighter or layered for eyeshadow. It's given me a chance to be experimental with my makeup in a way that I very rarely try and I'm loving being pushed and challenged by some new techniques and styles!

My skincare and fragrance collections have similarly been inundated with new and exciting products but these are the ones that've stood out so far. From an oldie with the Revlon Kiss Balm in Juicy Peach which has just been a super easy purse balm for the last few months to my new Pixi Rose Caviar Essence which is a light boost of hydration to my nighttime skincare routine, I'm slowly working out some new skincare routines to keep my skin hydrated and healthy.

For Christmas I received a Maison Francis Kurkdjian fragrance sampler set and the unpredictable Sydney weather that changes from hot and sticky to wet and windy overnight has had me reaching for his Aqua range, especially Aqua Universalis and Aqua Celestia to keep me feeling fresh and crisp.

Congratulations on making it to the end! I hope you enjoyed reading about the products I've been loving over the last few months and all the products I've been introducing to my beauty routines. Please let me know in a comment whether you've used any of these products before or if you've been loving something different.

xx Julia
