Pros & Cons of Panning

Monday, 25 April 2016

Over the past year or so, I've really fallen in love with the panning community online. We're a group of makeup and beauty enthusiasts who set challenges, goals, and projects to hit pan in or finish our products. It's a completely different approach to makeup collecting compared to the haul-centric creators that most people think of when they think about the online beauty community. As much as I love it, though, there are both good and bad aspects to panning beauty products, like anything else!

  • You get to focus on products in your collection that you'd otherwise neglected
  • Rediscovering old loves (or finding new ones!)
  • Feeling like you got your money's worth out of your purchases
  • Downsizing your collection into something more manageable or reflective of your preferences
  • Not feeling like you constantly have to buy new makeup
  • Finishing products!
  • Sometimes you end up neglecting things you love
  • It can be frustrating and it will try your patience
  • Realising how long something takes to use up can make your collection feel overwhelming
  • It can feel repetitive or boring if done for a long period of time
Probably my favourite thing about panning products is being able to direct my love of makeup into products I already have, and not constantly buying new and unnecessary things. That being said, panning isn't for everyone and it can get very frustrating for some people. Like anything, there are good and bad bits to panning and it's up to you to work out if it's something that's going to work for you!

What are your panning pros and cons?

xx Julia
