Tips for Oily Skin

It can be really tricky figuring out how to best handle and take care of your skin. There are so many different products on the market that cater to all sorts of skin concerns and it can be confusing to know what will work for you. Here are some of my tips if you have oily skin on how to best care for it.


1. Use oil free products, except for facial oils

This makes a lot of sense: if you have a lot of oil in your skin, there's no need to add more so using oil free products can minimise the amount of oil and shine your skin has. More counter-intuitive is the use of facial oils. These have become really popular in recent years as a sure-fire way to add a massive hit of hydration to your skin. Oily skin gets dehydrated too and using a hydrating facial oil can help calm your skin so it stops producing too much of its own oil.

2. Use clay, ash, or mud based masks
Clay, ash, and mud are ingredients known to be very good at cleansing pores and detoxifying the skin of things like excess oil. There are plenty of these on the market so its best to do some research into the ones that spark your interest and find something in your price range.

3. Use a toner
One of the main symptoms of oily skin is being unhappy and unbalanced such that it overproduces oil to combat this. Using a toner balances the pH in the skin and can serve to minimise redness or irritation that oily skinned people may experience.

4. Use a gentle exfoliating cleanser
Oily skin is often observed in conjunction with a proneness to acne. In order to keep the pores clear and free from irritating and clogging bacteria, try using a gentle exfoliating cleanser daily. If you have sensitive skin, you can add this to your routine 2-3 times a week to clear out and minimise the appearance of your pores.
