Review | L'Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire

Wednesday, 20 August 2014

Remember when Clinique released the Chubby Sticks and then every brand had to have its own collection of crayon lipstick? I think we're now facing the same for the liquid lipstick/lipgloss hybrid. First we had Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers, then Maybelline Colour Elixirs and Chanel Fluid Sticks. Now, L'Oreal has joined on with their Colour Riche Extraordinaires. I must say, after swatching these in store, I was very excited to give them a go and picked up two colours: 102 Rose Finale and 600 Nude Vibrato.

The colour selection is really quite nice ranging through various pinks, reds, oranges, berries, fuchsias, and some nudes, as well. I picked up the two that seemed most wearable for my skin tone with Rose Finale a bright, mid-tone pink and Nude Vibrato a peachy-nude that doesn't wash me out.

These products are very creamy and have that cushiony feel on the lips. What's most exciting, though, is the pigmentation. There is great colour payoff and a super glossy shine you'll see coming from miles away. Wear time isn't bad, either, with the product staying slippery for a few hours (without eating). When the gloss fades, so does the colour, but leaving a bit of pigmentation behind. This is a product that, because of how creamy it is, does settle into lip lines but for something so comfortable and pigmented, that doesn't really bother me.

Product application involves a little pointed doe-foot applicator similar to the YSL Glossy Stains or the Maybelline Colour Elixirs. This makes application precise and easy as the sponge bends to fit your lip shape.

Like most L'Oreal products, these ones are packaged in clean, gold packaging with the product colour painted on the front, top, and bottom so you never get them mixed up. Also, like most L'Oreal products, these ones don't include any trace of a product name anywhere which I find pretty annoying if you're trying to tell someone about a product to try! You may be pleased to know, though, that the Colour Riche Extraordinaires don't have L'Oreal's signature floral scent but instead a light peachy one.

The Colour Riche Extraordinaires are some of the most comfortable and flattering lip products I've ever tried and I'd definitely like to pick some more up next time they're on sale!

xx Julia
