Review | L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau de Teint

Friday, 23 May 2014

This is L'Oreal's newest foundation release and it was much awaited in Australia after seeing it launched in America and the UK before us. I was excited to get this foundation in the hopes it would be my light-weight, easy to wear, winter foundation choice and, while there are things I like about it, there are also some things I'm not too hot about.

I'll start with the product itself. This is a very thin, watery consistency that I haven't seen in a foundation before. Many have compared it to the Giorgio Armani Maestro, but I haven't tried that one before so I can't add my thoughts! It also has a very strong alcohol scent which I definitely wasn't expecting but is hard to miss when you open the bottle.

The colour selection is pretty awful. Here in Australia, the lightest shade available is 120 Pure Ivory. I'm not the palest girl out there and this shade is just a smidge too dark. It works alright now but as I pale throughout winter, I don't think it'll be so easy to pull off.

Application is a bit odd because (yet again) this bottle doesn't include a pump. They recommend tilted the bottle onto your finger and applying directly to your face. It's not the most hygienic but with such a watery product, pouring it onto you hand is pretty well out of the question. The bottle is also glass, which doesn't make it super travel friendly.

This is definitely the lightest coverage foundation I have ever tried. That being said, it also layers like a dream and you can almost achieve a light/medium coverage. I certainly wouldn't recommend this if you prefer medium or full coverage because you simply won't get that with this product. I like light coverage and I like the way it smooths out and evens my skin tone without looking like I'm wearing makeup.

L'Oreal claims "A feather light foundation, feels as light and fresh as water. Instantly fuses with the skin blending seamlessly to leave a silky, second skin effect."

The finish is a satin/matte depending on your skin type and it does look incredibly natural. A "perfect bare skin look".

Something else I should probably mention: This bottle only contains 20mL compared to the usual 30mL of most foundations. This hasn't seemed to affect the price, however, as we're still asked to pay around AUD$25.

So, there are some pros and cons but for now I'm enjoying using it. Have you tried Eau de Teint? What did you think?

Review | New Garnier Skincare

Wednesday, 21 May 2014

Garnier has had a massive re-vamp of their brand this year discontinuing and releasing products left, right, and centre. These are three products that I picked up at the beginning of the year which I thought I would tell you about if you found all the new stock a bit overwhelming!

Anti-Shine Cleansing Gel -
I purchased this when my skin was going through a bit of a rough patch (which I don't think I've quite escaped yet) and, while I think it did it's best, it didn't seem like quite enough. I've been getting quite a few breakouts but this cleanser doesn't seem to significantly combat, repair, or prevent future breakouts. I'm not quite sure what it does!

This is a gel cleanser targeted towards combination to oily skin types to mattify and tighten pores. It contains green tea to detoxify and moringa extract to purify the skin.

I've found that my skin just isn't a big fan of gel cleansers as they tend to suck the moisture straight out of my already dehydrated face. It hasn't had a drastic impact on my skin for the better or worse but, once I use it up, I can't imagine I'll be repurchasing it.

Micellar Cleansing Water -
Almost everyone it seems has picked this up and done a review over the last few months. The main pull is that magic phrase 'cleansing water' which is taking the beauty world by storm. Many brands have released their own over the last few years but Garnier's has a notable difference: the price! This 400mL bottle is a mere fraction of the price of most brands which has had everyone rejoicing.

It claims to be suitable for all skin types and can be used to remove makeup, cleanse and sooth the skin on your face, eyes, and lips.

The best part, though, is this product really works. Squirt a bit onto a cotton pad and it'll remove an entire face of makeup with nearly no effort. It's safe to use on the eyes and doesn't sting at all. I've been using this morning and night and have completely fallen in love! I highly, highly recommend this product, especially if you've been eyeing Bioderma recently.

Gentle Cleansing Milk -
I was on a bit of a makeup remover kick when I picked this up hoping I had found the next best drugstore makeup remover.

This is a thin cream-like consistency that can be used to remove makeup and soften your skin on the face and eyes. It contains cherry to soften and moringa extracts to purifying. This product is recommended for dry skin.

This is another one of those incredibly easy makeup removing/cleansing products popular nowadays, though, unlike the Micellar Cleansing Water, this one does require a rinsing step.

I've been using it mostly over the last few weeks in the cooler weather to help combat the dry, flaky skin I tend to get when the temperatures drop. I'm looking forward to continue to use it over the coming months.

Have you tried any new Garnier recently? What did you think? Let me know!

May Beauty Empties

Friday, 16 May 2014

If you've never come across an empties post before, I'll fill you in: This is where I show you all the products I've used up or are throwing away and give you a few of my thoughts about each.

These are some of my favourite post to read or videos to watch because you get the most important information [yay or nay] for a lot of products all at once. Plus, if someone has worked all their way to the end of a product, that in itself tells you a lot!

Here's what I've used up over the last few months:

Haircare:

Pantene Pro-V Hydrating Curls Conditioner - Before I picked this up at Priceline recently, I had never heard of this line from Pantene but I am so glad I came across it because I love it! It left my hair smooth and easy to manage. I would absolutely purchase this again.

Pantene Pro-V Intense Smoothening Leave On Creme - I talk about this product all the time because it's my holy grail hair product. It de-frizzes and keeps my curls separate and defined. Using too much can make my hair crunchy but it's still the best curl styling product I've ever used.

Skin and Body Care:

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Pore Scrub - I purchased this because I loved all the natural ingredients but the scrub itself was too fine and thin so I probably wouldn't repurchase it.

Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover - This cleanser had an odd consistency between a cream and gel cleanser which smelt like fresh apples. I felt that it was more of a makeup remover than cleanser in that it didn't seem to penetrate my pores at all and for that reason I wouldn't repurchase it.

Garnier Clean Sensitive 2 in 1 Gentle Make-Up Remover - This stuff is fantastic! It gets off absolutely everything very easily. It didn't irritate my eyes or skin and I thoroughly enjoyed using it. I would repurchase it.

Swisspers 50 Large Make-Up Pads - I use these to remove my makeup and I like them because they have quilted edges which keeps the pad from breaking up or ripping. I use them at least once a day and I would repurchase them.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream (Deluxe Sample) - I quite liked this moisturiser in that it was thick and you didn't need to use a whole lot which meant this little pot lasted me ages! If I had a bit of money to splurge then I might consider purchasing this guy again.

Schick Hydro Moisturising Shave Gel - I stole this from my brother because I thought it would make shaving my legs a more pleasurable experience but, man, was I mistaken! This left my legs itchy and burning after almost every use and I would not try it again.

Original Source Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel - These shower gels are amazing! They are incredibly cheap at the super market and their scents are to die for! Loved this one and absolutely would repurchase.

Sephora Age Defy Moisture Cream SPF 15 Sunscreen and Super Loaded Age Defy Serum Sachets - I didn't notice anything particularly impressive when trying these products other than the fact that they are very heavily perfumed. Even if there was a Sephora in Australia, I wouldn't purchase these.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Toner Sachets - I don't tend to use toners because they never seem to make a difference on my skin. This one was no different so I won't be spending the money on a full size.

Makeup:

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in 050 Berry Smoothie - Probably one of my greatest achievements to date has been completely using up this full size lip product. I almost can't believe I made it to the end! This was my go-to lippie for work and I did enjoy using it while I had it. The Lipbutters are easy to use and come in some lovely colours but with this one in particular, I'm not a huge fan of how Revlon does glitter. I already have heaps of lip products so I won't be repurchasing this one.

Covergirl Clump Crusher Extensions Mascara - I got this one hoping it would give me what I thought the original Clump Crusher lacked. Unfortunately, I didn't fall head over heels with this mascara either so I probably won't repurchase it.

MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Brunette - I really enjoyed using this pencil because it was a nice colour match for my brows and the pencil tip was thin enough to give a more natural look. If I ever have another $30 to spend on a brow pencil, I would repurchase this one.

So, there you go! Those are all the products I've used up recently and what I think of each. Let me know if you've tried any of these products and what your thoughts were, too!

Thank you for reading!

I'm back!

Wednesday, 14 May 2014

As some of you may have noticed, I've been entirely absent for most of this year. I don't have much of an excuse other than I got quite busy over summer and just fell out of the habit, unfortunately.

But now I'm back! I do love being part of the beauty blogger community and I have missed it.

I have a number of new post ideas up my sleeve but please let me know if you have any suggestions or if there is a particular product you'd like me to review. I am more than happy to be of service to you!

Thank you so much to everyone that has stuck around, I am very grateful and excited to begin again with you all!

Thank you!

xx Julia
