Review: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer in Brightener

Thursday, 19 December 2013

I have been hearing about the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer for as long as I've been involved in the beauty community. I finally crossed it off my 'to-buy' and picked up the Brightener shade to see what I thought of this much raved about product.

At first I was a little bit confused about the packaging. You have to twist to get the product to move up the tube and out the sponge on the top but I was twisting for ages and hardly anything came out! Eventually I got the hang of it but I still think this particular packaging is a bit of a draw-back for the product itself.

I've used it a few times and I'm very sad to say that I'm not overly impressed. The formulation is very thin for a concealer, even a brightening one, and I find it doesn't resist creasing very well, either. It blends well and application is pretty straightforward but if I have to use another concealer over the top then why would I need it? I find I get a similar brightening effect with a concealer that's a few shades too light for my skin tone.

I'll play around with it a bit more to see what I can make it do. I'm just always confused when I try a product that everyone loves but I don't seem to love. What am I missing??

Have you had a similar experience? Do you have any suggestions?

Top Coral Lip Colours for Summer

Tuesday, 17 December 2013

Coral is by far my favourite lip colour so, when summer comes around, there's just no stopping me! It's basically the only colour I let near my lips between winter and fall so I've stocked up quite a selection of shades. Today I thought I'd share my favourites with you! Coral is a universally flattering colour but hopefully by browsing my collection you'll find a tone your particularly like.

Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butter in 027 Juicy Papaya - This is my newest edition to my collection. It's a lovely sheer apricot-coral without any shimmer. I love the Revlon Lip Butters for being so easy to wear.

Maybelline Color Whisper in 40 Orange Attitude - The Color Whispers are much closer to a tinted lip balm without the added moisture. This is probably the most orange colour I own and it's great for no-makeup kind of days.

MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Coral Bliss - The Cremesheen formulation isn't my favourite but it's nice for a sheer wash of a pink-coral. It's a similar colour to Juicy Papaya but without the glossiness.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in 255 Kiss Me Coral - I absolutely love this gloss and cannot stop talking about it. It's bright, glittery, lasts for ages, and without any stickiness! One of the best purchases I've made for my lip product collection.

MAC Cremesheen Glass in Dynasty at Dusk - A beautiful light pink-coral with gold shimmer throughout. Though everyone knows the MAC formulation is sticky, I often think the delicious vanilla scent makes up for it!

Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in 235 Coral Twist - This balm leans much closer to pink than coral but I think it still counts! Like the Revlon gloss, this is super bright and easy to wear with a light wash of colour.

From left to right: Coral Twist, Dynasty at Dusk, Kiss Me Coral, Coral Bliss, Orange Attitude, Juicy Papaya.

I try to use light, easy to wear products in the summer so I generally stick to glosses and tints rather than full on lipsticks. Does anyone else feel that way? And, if so, what are your favourite ones? Let me know!

Review: Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in 027 Juicy Papaya

Tuesday, 10 December 2013

I finally got my hands on the spring/summer Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters! I picked mine up in a gift-with-purchase from my local Myer the other day in the colour 027 Juicy Papaya.

The Revlon Lip Butters are an easy way to wear a sheer wash of colour that isn't as heavy or drying as a lipstick nor as sticky as a lipgloss. They're creamier and thicker than a tinted lip balm and [most of them] have a better colour pay-off, as well. These are in no way balms, though, and you shouldn't expect an exceptional amount of hydration from them.

Juicy Papaya is a nice apricot/orange colour which really suits the summer months. I can never get enough coral or orange shades so this colour is right up my alley! It's a cream finish without any sparkle or shimmer but it has a juicy kind of sheen when worn on the lips. I've only tried Berry Smoothie from this line before but, in comparison, Juicy Papaya is much sheerer. After you warm the product up a bit there's more colour pay-off but nothing like some of the other Lip Butters that I've seen. It also has a faint vanilla scent.

While I'm really excited to be wearing this product over summer, I'm incredibly glad I held out and didn't purchase this for AUD$21.95. I honestly don't think this product is worth that price when it's such a sheer, non-moisturising lip product. Of course, it's up to you, but I wouldn't recommend picking this one up for full price if you can help it.

Like I said, I got Juicy Papaya in a gift-with-purchase [also including a makeup bag, nail polish, eyeshadow quad, serum sample, and mascara] when I spent AUD$39.95 on Revlon products at Myer. I'm not sure if the deal is still going on but it's worth checking out! You were able to choose from three different colours of Lip Butters and nail polishes.

Review: Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Glosses

Thursday, 5 December 2013

L-R: Kiss Me Coral, Pango Peach, Pink Pop, Snow Pink, Super Natural, Berry Allure

Out of all of Revlon's products, their lip products are some the most well-known in the beauty community so today I wanted to show you a recently discovered favourite line of Revlon lip gloss: Super Lustrous. This line hit Australian shores not too long ago and I've been loving them ever since!

Firstly, the colour range is fantastic with 12 different shades ranging across corals, reds, nudes, pinks, and purples so anyone can find their perfect colour. I particularly like their variety of glittery and cream glosses so you don't have to put up with super sparkle if you don't want to. They also have a wonderful formulation with just enough gloss to give your lips shine without any kind of tackiness or stickiness to make wearing them uncomfortable.

I have six of the Super Lustrous Lip Glosses with three glitter and three creams. Kiss Me Coral (glitter) is the colour that drew me to the line in the first place; a beautiful bright coral/red it just pops in any makeup look. Pango Peach (glitter) is a close second favourite with a nice, natural pink/coral that will look really flattering over summertime. Next is Pink Pop (cream) which seems to be everyone's favourite as a bright blue-toned pink. The most versatile of the bunch is Snow Pink (glitter), a light shimmery pink that is just sheer enough to work well over any lip colour. Super Natural (cream) is exactly how the name suggests, a dark nude shade for those not looking for a lot of colour. Lastly, Berry Allure (cream) is a beautiful choice for a dark, vampy purple lip that I can imagine looking really nice on a night out.

What I don't love about this product is the price. AUD$21.95 for 3.8mL is a bit too much for a drugstore brand, in my opinion. I feel like I'm in an eternal battle with Revlon debating whether their products are worth the price tag. If that's something that bothers you, as well, I have a secret for you! At the moment, Revlon has a Kris Kringle Gift Set of five full size Super Lustrous Lip Glosses available for $39.95. That's less than the price of two! I found mine at the Revlon counter in my local Myer so I recommend heading on over and having a look for yourself before they sell out!

November Beauty Favourites!

Tuesday, 3 December 2013

Unfortunately, November wasn't a great month for beauty favourites because I just didn't use a whole lot! With the uni semester ending and exams, I didn't have a lot of time to focus on my beauty routine so it really was a month of tried and tested. But, nonetheless, I have a few products that caught my eye that I wanted to share with you today!

Original Source Limited Edition Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel -  Original Source is just one of those brands that I hear constantly  being raved about. They're known for their fantastically scented shower gels made from natural fragrances in Australia without animal testing. They're just all good! So, when I ran out of body wash this month, I decided to try something new and went for a Pink Grapefruit scent. I must say that the scent was about 90% of the reason I bought it because it perfectly captures the tartness and fruitiness of pink grapefruit! It's great!

Soap & Glory Hand Food - I was certain that I'd found my favourite hand lotion in Neutrogena's Norwegian Formula Hand Cream until I tried this bad boy. It contains shea butter, macadamia oil, and marshmallow to leave your hands perfectly soft without that horrible greasy feel. It also smells amazing, as all Soap & Glory products do!

Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in 235 Coral Twist and Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in 255 Kiss Me Coral - I cannot get enough of this lip combination! If I wore a bright lip this month, it was made up of these two products. They go together so well to create a beautiful, bright pink-coral-red lip that I have fallen in love with. Both products are light and smooth making them easy to work with and wear. I can feel this being my go-to lip combo this summer.

Lorac Pro Eyeshadow Palette - Everybody knows about this palette with its ridiculously wearable collection of mattes and shimmers. I've been using this product like crazy this past month because it's just so easy! All the colours go together beautifully and you can any kind of look with just one palette. I've been particularly loving Champagne, Light Bronze, Mauve, and Taupe recently.

So, there you have it! A short and sweet November Beauty Favourites from me. Have you been loving any products recently? Let me know!
