Mini MAC Eyeshadow Haul!

Sunday, 30 December 2012

Hey, guys! Firstly, I must apologize for my rather long absence as I haven't blogged or vlogged properly since much earlier this month but I was taking a bit of a break to spend time with my family and relax for a while. I hope you can forgive me!

Now, to the task at hand: Today I went on a bit of an adventure hoping to find some eyeshadows that I'd been looking to purchase for a while but which had been sold out! So, basically, this is just a mini haul I made today that I felt like sharing with you guys!

From left to right they are Naked Lunch, Mythology and Satin Taupe.

As you can probably tell from the packaging, these are MAC eyeshadows and they're actually my first ever MAC eyeshadow purchases!

I'm sure you're all very familiar with Naked Lunch and Satin Taupe as they're two of the most popular shadows across the internet beauty community. They're both frost finishes and are really lovely neutral shades which is what originally drew me to them.

The last, Mythology, is a beautiful peachy-pink-gold colour with a lustre finish that I'd honestly never particularly considered before talking to the makeup artist today. But once he'd put it on my eyes I was sold!

I was also lucky enough to receive two mini samples of the Prep + Prime Vibrancy Eye Primer and Zoom Lash Mascara with my purchase.

I'm very excited about my purchases today and I can't wait to try them! I hope you enjoyed seeing my mini haul; let me know if you'd like to see more of these in the future!

Nails of the Week: China Glaze Sweet Hook

Tuesday, 11 December 2012

Here is the second of the pair of polishes that my brother's girlfriend gave me last week: China Glaze Sweet Hook.

At first I wasn't 100% sure about this colour because I don't wear a lot of purple polishes but once I put it on I was in love! This might even be my new favourite summer polish! I just adore the creamy, purpley-lilac quality of the colour and the way it almost looks like a baby purple.

The China Glaze brush is one of the best that I've tried and this polish's formulation is just short of opaque so I definitely needed two coats but it was worth it!

Now that I've got it on I really can't imagine wearing anything else!

Nails of the Week: China Glaze Custom Kicks

Wednesday, 5 December 2012

Last weekend my brother's girlfriend returned from a trip she took to Melbourne where she bought me a surprise gift of two China Glaze nail polishes! It was completely unexpected and very sweet of her because I'd been eyeing this brand online for a while!

The first of the two that I've tried out is Custom Kicks. It's a turquoise blue colour with the slightest golden shimmer that almost doesn't appear on the nail. In the photo I've accented one nail with Orly Shine on Crazy Diamond just for something fun.

I was really impressed with the quality of this polish. It has a good sized brush that makes application easy and the formulation of the product is fantastic. One coat is perfectly opaque with a smooth, even colour.

I'm really pleased with my new polishes and I look forward to wearing them this summer!

Review: Maybelline the Falsies Volum Express Mascara in Black Drama

Monday, 26 November 2012

Before I bought this mascara I heard a ton of mixed reviews all across the internet where it seemed that people either loved the product or hated it. This really intrigued me so I went out and purchased it for myself. I'm very pleased to say that I'm in the group of people that absolutely adores this mascara like I've never loved mascara before.

I wasn't very familiar with Maybelline mascara before this one because I'd generally stuck to Covergirl. Initially, I was a bit put off by the wetness of the product and the fibers that are supposed to add length to your lashes. But I gave it a shot and I must say that I love what this mascara does for my eyelashes. It darkens, lengthens and thickens really well, making my lashes look better than they ever have before.

The brush on this mascara has a slight curve with medium-sized bristles which makes it easier to get to the littlest lashes on the corner of your eyes.

One of my favourite things about this product is its lasting power. I wear it on my top and bottom lashes and even after a full day, this mascara doesn't flake, wear or smudge like other products tend to do. It is easily the best wearing mascara that I've ever used.

Basically, I'm in love with this product and I will definitely be repurchasing it when I run out.

You can pick the Falsies Volum Express Mascara in Black Drama up for yourself wherever Maybelline products are sold for around AUD$19.

Nails of the Week: Rimmel London 60 Seconds in 800 Black Out

Sunday, 25 November 2012

As I was sorting through my nail polish collection I discovered this little guy which, at the time, was really exciting because I didn't think I owned a plain black polish.

Unfortunately, after using this product a few times in the last couple of weeks, I've been really disappointed. The formulation of the polish is thin and watery which gives an uneven colour on the nail. On top of that, the brush is easily the largest I've ever seen which makes application cumbersome and very messy.

I've heard good things about Rimmel 60 Nail Polish before but I really must disagree as my experiences guarentee that I will not be purchasing another polish from this collection. It also seems that I'll need to buy myself a new black polish to replace this one which is a pain.

I hope everyone else has been having better luck with their nails this week!

Life Update!

Thursday, 22 November 2012

Hey, everyone!
I'm just here to give you a quick life update to let you know what's going on with me at the moment.

Yesterday I underwent surgery to remove my wisdom teeth which has left me in a bit of pain and very puffy so unfortunately I won't be able to upload a new video for about a week, possibly longer. Please be patient, I'll do my best to make it up to you!

I've also recently got a twitter account ( so be sure to check that out to get rather regular updates about my goings-on and online activity.

For now you can wander over to youtube to watch my most recent video: Spring+Summer Collective Haul! ~ LUSH, Topshop, etc. Or any of my others if you like!

Review: Maybelline Dream Lumi Illuminating Concealer

Sunday, 18 November 2012

Hey, guys! I've recently been using and loving this Dream Lumi Illuminating Concealer by Maybelline in the colour Ivory.

It has a brush-tip applicator for applying directly to the skin and a twist bottom that pushes the product up through the brush.

It's great for covering blemishes as well as lightening darkened areas on your face like under-eye circles. I will mention, though, that this is a yellow-based concealer which can make it turn a slight ashy colour under the eye. However, it lasts all day and is easily afforadable at about $18 from Priceline.

I really like Maybelline products and I definitely recommend this concealer if you're looking for something from the drugstore that works.

Happy Spring: Sugar Monster Babycakes!

Friday, 9 November 2012

Happy Spring, everybody!
I made these funny little sugar monster babycakes this afternoon to officially welcome in this sunny season.

I like spring because it's the season before summer and it's the time of year when we can finally wander out of our winter caves and expose our skin to the sky! I love being able to change up my wardrobe a little bit and wear some brighter colours and just generally get excited to go to the beach!

What do you guys like about spring? Feel free to comment and let me know!
Also, stay on the look-out for my next spring-themed video that should be up by next week.

Monday Questionaire

Monday, 5 November 2012

Let's start this week off with a Monday Questionaire! I got this lovely one from Allison aka Amarixe (

1. Mood:
I'm feeling pretty good right now. I'm a little bit stressed for an exam I have later this week but then I'm free for the summer and I'm so excited for that!
2. On the topic of Hurricane Sandy, are any natural disasters commom where you live?
Sydney doesn't really ever face any natural disasters but Queensland up above us suffers hurricanes, floods and droughts regularly.
3. What is your favourite song at the moment?
Definitely Little Voices by Of Monsters and Men. I am really obsessed with listening to it. It just instantly lifts my mood!
4. Current nail polish:
5. If you could only use one makeup product, what would it be?
Perhaps foundation because having nice skin is an excellent confidence booster but I'm going to say mascara because even wearing it alone it can just pull a look together.
6. Current outfit:
Grey yoga pants and an old t-shirt that says "EspaƱol". Today was a lazy day for me!
7. Are you good at keeping in touch with friends and family?
With things like facebook and twitter I find it a bit easier but I don't have a mobile phone and that can get tricky. I do my best to keep in contact with people, especially since most of my family lives far away from me.
8. Are you excited about any holiday makeup collections this year?
To be honest I'm not entirely sure what's coming out later this year. I've been a bit out of the loop recently but I'm sure there's some good stuff heading our way!
9. The world's most wonderful chef is at your home ready to fix any meal you desire -- what do you order?
Aw, man. That's tricky because I really love food. But I have a bit of an obsession with pasta so perhaps a nice mac and cheese or linguini.
10. Weekly goals:
This week I want to finish my last exam and have a great weekend spent with my visiting brother and his family!
If you've got any questions for me to answer next Monday then please leave them in a comment here or on my youtube channel. Have a great week, everybody!

Nails of the Week: OPI Big Apple Red

Sunday, 4 November 2012

Hey, guys! This week I made a great find in my mom's nail polish collection that jumped out at me right away. This is OPI Nail Lacquer in Big Apple Red. Here I've got two coats on my nails with my favourite Sally Hansen Double Duty Strengthening Base and Top Coat. This is an absolutely gorgeous bright candy apple red that looks classic on any nails and with any outfit. I put this on and I feel instantly transformed into the ever-stylish Betty Draper. It's just that kind of colour! The formulation is smooth and just shy of opaque at two coats but I think that just adds to how bright this polish pops.
Every girl should have a classic red in their collection and I highly recommend this one!

Nails of the Week: OPI Bubble Bath w/ Orly Shine on Crazy Diamond

Sunday, 28 October 2012

The last couple of days I've been wearing OPI Bubble Bath with two coats of Orly Shine on Crazy Diamond on top to add some extra sparkle. Bubble Bath is a super pale pink colour that just creates a nice natural shine on your nails and I think the glitter just jazzes them up a bit!

My mom and I recently discovered that David Jones in Hornsby Westfield sells a large selection of OPI polishes and we were thrilled! Now we don't have to limit our OPI buying to the airport duty free! Even at $20 a bottle OPI is still my favourite nail polish out there.

Saturday, 27 October 2012

Hello, everyone!
Here's a quick little introduction to get us all started:

I'm Julia and I'm a student living in Sydney, Australia. I'm pretty obsessed about the good things in life: books, movies, makeup, fashion and, most importantly, the internet. I'm always scrolling through youtube and tumblr looking for people that share common interests with me and for all the information I can get on the hot new thing. But I've always seemed to run across a problem; the vast majority of bloggers and vloggers online live in the complete opposite hemisphere from me!

So, here I am, fellow Australians! I'm going to fill that utter lack of Australian presence on the internet with tips, tricks, advice, reviews and general news about what's going on in our half of the world.

Stick around and let's see where this takes us!
